Homelands Festival - 1999 Summer 1999 and the long awaited, sold out, Homelands dance event in the grounds of the Matterley Estate in Hampshire was upon us. The main sponsor for the event was communications giant Ericsson and they really wanted everyone to know it. The festival site was in a natural bowl with a treeless sloping bank at the rear of the fenced arena. Was it possible to project a slide image onto this ? Well....with planning and a test projection prior to the event, Yes, of course it was possible. And if that was not enough to focus everyone's attention, a high power NdYag laser display system was positioned on the top of the bank, above the centre of the logo, projecting aerial effects and beams over the festival site and beyond over surrounding villages and towns. The final proposal involved using two 5 kw projectors with each projecting one half of the logo. Each slide was keystoned to compensate for the both the sloping surface and for the fact that the projection position was off set to one side of the arena. The result on the day, once darkness had fallen, was an enormous bright logo across the rear of the site, which appeared to be hanging in the air above the arena. Project Manager: Mike Stitfall |
